I believe in educators because when my son, who has a learning disability, needed someone to believe in him, his teacher, Cyndi Johnson, believed in him. And because she believed in him, he believed in himself. As a father, that meant a lot. Cyndi helped my son and I know that educators all across the state are helping other children believe that they can achieve great things. As governor I will make sure our educators have the tools they need to help our kids be successful because a strong, innovative education system is the foundation for all that we do.

The news out of North Dakota makes clear that a competitive tax policy grows opportunity for people. Alaska should not accept status quo decline of our oil production. Instead, Alaska must once again be competitive at these high oil prices by adjusting our oil tax regime. If we do so, Alaska will garner more investment, create more production, and grow our economy.

A Georgia Rep got a resolution, fortunately non-binding, that active military in D.C. only should be exempt from our gun laws. If these bills are so important, why limit them to one district? Spent all week calling them out, terrific response from across the country. Nobody likes a bully.

Senator Daniel Akaka (HI): "Viral hepatitis is a serious health concern within the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities. Despite representing only six percent of the population, Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders account for over half of the 1,400,000 domestic cases of hepatitis B. We can address this issue head-on through increased awareness, prevention, and screening for this disease. A simple blood test for hepatitis can reduce the risk of transmission through education and vaccination of household members and other persons at risk for infection. Early diagnosis of viral hepatitis also allows individuals to make simple behavioral changes that can significantly slow disease progression."
